So last weekend my dad invited me to have a drink with him and his best friend Ron to celebrate my admission to art school. As always, somewhere the conversation switched to gadgets and technology since the three of us are such geeks.
Though my dad certainly is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to today’s technologies, some mechanics still go over his head simply because he’s not as broadly interested in some area’s. At some point in the conversation my dad mentioned the ‘resurrection’ of Tupac Shakur. He wondered how it was done.
So I respond with “Well. they just used a…” but before I could finish my sentence, Ron interrupted me with “Never say ‘just’ when talking about technology. They never ‘just’ did something.” He was absolutely right.
The technology we use today is absolutely amazing. So much work has gone into creating our computer, our tablet, our smartphone. But that’s just the hardware side of things. The software is just as amazing, maybe even more amazing. Developers have given birth to engines that are able to create photorealistic images within digital universes that mimics the laws of physics flawlessly.
Look, I understand that when you’ve used Google Street View for the 100th time, the sense of awe has gone down a little. But could we please have a little bit appreciation for the technological marvels we have at our disposal.
Remember that at no other time in human history people have had anything similar to play with. These truly are unique and exciting times.
It seems the amount of followers my blog has has doubled in the past week. I think it due to my recent pixel art entries. Some of those were received very well.
I haven’t had the time to post more work last week because I was busy preparing from my intake exam at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (NL), which I attended today.
It won’t be another month till I get confirmation if I am accepted or not, but so far everything went well. Pretty exciting stuff.
Anyway, that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit on my ass until then. I’m planning on posting more work in the following weeks.
